Huawei possesses considerable technical know-how and a strong desire to continuously innovate, which has held it in good stead in its march towards a connected world. Its visionary products and technologies have addressed the modular UPS market’s biggest unmet needs, namely:

  • the need for flexibility in capacity expansion
  • shorter mean time to repair (MTTR) and
  • embedded intelligence for effective monitoring and scaling of the UPS power density to match the rising density levels of the IT equipment.

“Huawei’s modular UPS systems not only met customers’ demands but also offered improved reliability, efficiency, and convenience,” said Frost & Sullivan Senior Industry Analyst Gautham Gnanajothi. “It leverages modern design in its products and incorporates an advanced digital chip technology with cutting-edge power electronics. This has allowed it to augment the reliability of its units, enabling the parallel connection of up to 160 power modules.”

A notable product advantage of Huawei’s modular UPS systems is that it uses an innovative “all hot-swap module design” that aids the hot-swap of the power module, bypass module, and control module to aid capacity expansion. Its bypass module is designed to provide continuous power supply even at high load conditions.

Huawei boasts four R&D centers globally for UPS systems, has obtained over 100 patents, and has considerable potential to further strengthen its position with its long-range, macro-level innovation strategies. It goes to great lengths to maintain a pulse on the market by not only analyzing market trends but also studying customer feedback to identify and understand problem areas.

The company has employed the advancements in digital signal processing technologies to design its own patented modular UPS design. Additionally, its communication technology, based on its patented time division duplex (TDD), ensures real-time control over the modules connected in parallel. Its technology expertise and dedicated R&D efforts in areas such as communication, chip designing, and power electronics have enabled it to take large strides in design concepts that are digital, network-based, and intelligent

“Huawei has made concerted efforts to educate potential end users on the feasibility of its modular UPS systems,” noted Gautham. “In 2015, it organized a massive event to demonstrate the live testing of its ‘super-capacity system’ formed of eight parallel 800 kVA/W UPSs, comprising 160 modules (40-kVA each). Huawei is the first modular UPS manufacturer in the world to achieve such a high capacity paralleling of modules, reaching 6.4 MW.”

Huawei believes that the next step towards a digital society will be the integration of the digital and physical worlds, wherein ICT technologies will transform traditional industries, setting off a new kind of industrial revolution. In line with this vision, it has developed a more integrated information logistics system, linking people to people, people to things, and things to things.

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated excellence in devising a strong growth strategy and robustly implementing it. The recipient has shown strength in terms of innovation in products and technologies, leadership in customer value as well as speed in response to market needs. In short, the award looks at the emerging market participants in the industry and recognizes their best practices that are positioned for future growth excellence.

Frost & Sullivan’s Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for outstanding achievement in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research.
