Harshbeena Sahney Zaveri is the Vice Chairman & Managing Director of NRB Bearings Limited. She graduated with freshman distinction and as a Wellesley Scholar (magna cum laude) with an honors thesis from Wellesley College, and is focused on achieving Wellesley’s vision of developing women leaders. She is the only woman founder of Ashoka University, India’s first liberal arts university. She joined NRB as a trainee in 1987 and rose to become the President in 2001. As President, Harshbeena spearheaded NRB’s foray into Design Engineering and R&D enabling NRB to become a supplier to the world’s foremost automotive companies such as Mercedes, Volvo, Audi, Daimler and Mazda. She is the Chairman of the Board of SNL Bearings Limited and currently serves as an independent Board member at Karam Chand Thapar & Bros (Coal Sales) Ltd; she is a past independent Board Member of IL&FS Asset Management Company Limited. Under her leadership, Forbes Magazine selected NRB Bearings Limited as one of Asia’s Best 200 companies under US $ 1 Billion in the year 2007. Fortune Magazine has ranked Harshbeena amongst the 17 Most Powerful Indian Business Women from 2011 to date. In 2011, Business Today named her one of India’s 50 Most Powerful Women and India Today ranked her among the 25 Most Influential Women Professionals in 2012. On behalf of CII, she launched the latest international best seller “Frugal Innovation” written by Mr. Navi Radjou, Winner of the 2013 Thinker50 Innovation Award. Harshbeena accompanied the Honorable President of India – Mr. Pranab Mukherjee’s Mission to Sweden on June 2, 2015, and was part of the select group participating in bilateral discussions. She delivered a presentation on Innovate, Make and Grow with India on behalf of the delegation. She was invited to accompany the Prime Minister of India on his recent visit to Germany. The only woman founder of Ashoka University, Harshbeena is committed to developing young leaders in the country. In January 2016, she addressed students from Wellesley College as faculty at the winter session of the Albright Institute of Global Affairs. She is deeply engaged in mentoring students from IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, BITS Pilani, and Ashoka University. She is regularly invited to speak by corporates including Honeywell, Citibank, CRISIL, and at educational institutes including SP Jain Institute of Management and Research.
